A wedding website costs nothing on most dedicated wedding platforms and a monthly subscription on general website builders. As of October 2026, Eventi, Zola, The Knot and Joy all let you build and publish a wedding website for free; the recurring costs appear when you add a custom domain (from about eighteen to twenty dollars a year on Zola and The Knot), premium design effects, or matching paper products. Squarespace and Wix charge a monthly plan from the day you publish. The honest total for a typical couple is somewhere between zero and a couple of hundred dollars, and the difference is almost entirely about the domain and how long you keep the site up.

This guide breaks the cost down by line item, shows what each platform charges for the pieces that are not free, and explains why “free” means different things on different sites. If you only want the answer for Eventi: building, publishing, hosting and the RSVP are free with no time limit, and a custom domain is $29 once. Details are on the [pricing page](/pricing).

The plan and apps

Three things stand out. First, a dedicated wedding platform is cheaper than a general builder for a site you will use for a year, because the general builder charges every month. Second, the custom domain is the one line most couples pay for, and the only one on the list that Eventi charges once instead of yearly. Third, the free tiers of Zola and The Knot are genuinely free for the site itself; their business is the registry and the paper, not the website.

## What you actually pay for, line by line

### The site itself

Free on every wedding platform in the table. You get a set of designs, pages for schedule, travel, FAQ and registry, and a hosted address on the company’s domain, like ueventi.com/sites/emma-and-james. The differences are in design quality, how the RSVP works and what the company wants to sell you next. Browse Eventi’s six designs in the [template gallery](/wedding-website/templates).

### The custom domain

A domain like emmaandjames.com is the most common paid add-on. Zola lists domains from $17.99 a year, The Knot at $19.99 a year, and Joy sends you to a registrar to buy one at market price. On Eventi the domain is a one-time $29, which includes connecting it and the certificate; you do not renew it with us. Whether you need one at all is a fair question - most guests tap a link from a message and never type the address. See [wedding website name ideas](/blog/wedding-website-name-ideas) for how to choose a hosted name that is easy to say out loud.

### The RSVP

Included on the wedding platforms. On Squarespace or Wix you build it from a form block, and the replies land in a spreadsheet or inbox you then reconcile with your guest list by hand. Eventi’s [online RSVP](/online-rsvp) is tied to the guest list, each guest has a personal link, and the count updates as answers arrive. There is no charge for any of it.

### Invitations and reminders

This is where Eventi’s pricing lives, and it is optional. Sending the invitation as a WhatsApp or SMS message with reply buttons costs $0.45 per invitation, with a $15 minimum order, and reminders to guests who have not answered are included. Couples who prefer to share the link themselves pay nothing. Other platforms sell paper invitations and save-the-dates instead, which is a larger line item in most budgets; the trade-offs are in [wedding website vs paper invitations](/blog/wedding-website-vs-paper-invitations).

### Premium design effects and extras

Zola sells premium design upgrades on top of the free site, and all of the big platforms sell matching paper suites. Squarespace and Wix sell storage, commerce and app add-ons that a wedding site rarely needs. None of this is required for a site that works; it is worth deciding what you want before you are offered it at checkout.

## Why so many wedding websites are free

Zola and The Knot are registries and marketplaces first. A free website is the cheapest way for them to get your guest list to the registry, and the registry is where they earn. Joy makes the same trade and says so on its own pricing page. There is nothing wrong with the model, but it explains why the website upsells are always one click away and why the registry page is never hard to find.

Eventi’s model is different: the website and RSVP are free because the paid product is delivery. Couples who want their invitations to arrive as a message with Yes and No buttons, with automatic reminders, pay per invitation. Couples who do not need that get a free site with no catch. The reasoning is spelled out in the [free wedding website FAQ](/blog/free-wedding-website-faq).

## Three realistic budgets

### The zero-dollar wedding website

- Build on Eventi, Zola, The Knot or Joy with a hosted address.
- Share the link by text, WhatsApp or email yourself.
- Use the built-in RSVP and skip paper invitations or use a simple printed card with the address.
- Total cost: nothing. Time cost: about twenty minutes to build, per [how to make a wedding website](/blog/how-to-make-a-wedding-website).

### The custom-domain wedding website

- Everything above, plus a domain so the address fits on a printed save-the-date.
- Yearly on Zola or The Knot, one-time on Eventi; roughly the same money in year one.
- Remember to turn off renewal after the wedding if you bought it yearly.

### The all-in-one delivered wedding website

- A free Eventi site with the RSVP, and the invitation delivered over WhatsApp or SMS with reply buttons.
- Per-invitation pricing means a 120-guest wedding is priced by the household, not by the month.
- Reminders to non-responders are included, which is the part most couples end up doing by hand otherwise.

## Questions to ask before you pay for anything

- Will guests ever type the address, or will they always tap a link? If the latter, skip the domain.
- How long will the site stay up? A monthly plan for an eighteen-month engagement adds up.
- Does the RSVP connect to a real guest list, or to a form you will reconcile yourself?
- Is the site hidden from search engines by default, and can you add a password for free?
- What does the platform want to sell you, and are you fine with that being on your site?

Competitor prices in this article are as of October 2026 and come from each company’s public pricing pages. Eventi prices are pulled from our live price list, so they are current on the day you read this.
