To make a wedding website, you enter the event details once, pick a design, let the builder draft the pages, turn on the RSVP, set the privacy, choose a name and publish. With Eventi’s [free wedding website builder](/wedding-website) the whole thing takes about twenty minutes, including the part where you read the AI’s draft and fix the lines that do not sound like you. There is no cost to build or publish, the RSVP is built in, and the site lives at an address like ueventi.com/sites/emma-and-james until long after the wedding.

This guide walks through each step in order, says how long it should take, and lists the mistakes that turn a twenty-minute job into a weekend. If you want to see finished results first, the [wedding website examples](/blog/wedding-website-examples) show thirty sites built this way.

## Before you start: what to have on hand

- The date, the ceremony and reception venues with addresses, and the start times.
- Hotel names and the room-block code, if you have one. A placeholder is fine for now.
- Your RSVP deadline. If you have not picked one, three to four weeks before the wedding is the usual answer; see [when your RSVP deadline should be](/blog/wedding-rsvp-deadline).
- One photo you both like. You can add more later.
- Your guest list as a spreadsheet, if you want personal RSVP links from day one.

## How to make a wedding website, step by step

1. **Create the event.** Enter your names, the date, the city and the main venue. These become the first screen of the site and the facts the AI writes from. Two minutes.
2. **Pick a design.** Choose one of the six designs in the [template gallery](/wedding-website/templates): Envelope and Navy for formal rooms, Botanical and Garden for outdoor weddings, Editorial for lofts and restaurants, Mediterranean for the coast. You can switch later without losing your text. One minute.
3. **Let the AI draft the pages.** Write a short brief - the tone you want, anything you want mentioned - and the builder writes the welcome, schedule, travel, FAQ and RSVP pages from your event details. Read the draft on your phone, because that is where guests will read it. Three minutes.
4. **Edit the sections.** Drag sections up or down, delete the ones you do not need, and rewrite any line in your own words or ask the AI for a change in plain language (“make the welcome shorter and warmer”). The [what to put on a wedding website](/blog/what-to-put-on-your-wedding-website) checklist tells you what each section needs. Six minutes.
5. **Turn on the RSVP and choose the follow-up questions.** Attendance is always there. Add a headcount question, meal choice if you have a plated dinner, and a dietary line. Skip everything else. The [online RSVP](/online-rsvp) ties each answer to the right guest in your list. Two minutes.
6. **Set the privacy.** The site is hidden from search engines by default; leave it that way unless you want it found, in which case there is a one-click opt-in. Add a password if you prefer. Ideas are in [wedding website password ideas](/blog/wedding-website-password-ideas). One minute.
7. **Choose the site name.** Pick the part after ueventi.com/sites/ - your first names joined with “and” is the one guests remember. If you want your own domain, it is an optional one-time add-on at $29; most couples skip it because guests tap a link rather than type. More in [wedding website name ideas](/blog/wedding-website-name-ideas). One minute.
8. **Publish.** Preview once more, then publish. There is no fee and no subscription. The site goes live immediately and you can keep editing it afterward; every change is live as soon as you save. One minute.
9. **Share the link.** Send it as a WhatsApp or SMS invitation with Yes and No buttons through Eventi, or paste it into your own messages, a save-the-date or a QR code. Every option is ranked in [how to share your wedding website](/blog/how-to-share-your-wedding-website). Three minutes.

Choosing a channel. Where guests already read messages wins

Twenty minutes is realistic for a couple who has the venue and the date. A couple who starts the site the same week they get engaged will spend the same twenty minutes and leave the schedule as “details coming soon” for a while, which is fine. The timeline for what to add when is in [when to make your wedding website](/blog/when-to-make-your-wedding-website).

## Common mistakes, and how to skip them

### Starting with the story instead of the schedule

The story is the most fun to write and the least read. Do the schedule, the travel page and the RSVP first; they are what guests open the link for. Write the story last, in three paragraphs, with help from the [our story examples](/blog/wedding-website-our-story-examples) if you are stuck.

### Asking the RSVP form for too much

Every extra field loses a few replies. If you already have a guest’s address and phone number, do not ask again. Attendance, headcount, meal and allergies is the complete list for almost every wedding.

### Letting the guest count run free

A free-text “number of guests” box is how a party of two becomes a party of five. Personal RSVP links already know how many seats a household has, so the form only lets them confirm that many. The plus-one wording that goes with it is in [how to say no plus-ones](/blog/how-to-say-no-plus-ones-on-your-wedding-website).

### Publishing with the site visible to search engines

A page with your names, a date and a venue should not be the first result when someone searches your name. Eventi keeps the site hidden by default; if you are on another platform, find the setting and check it before you share.

### Sending the link in an email and waiting

Email gets opened late. A message in a chat people already check gets tapped. The highest reply rates come from sending the invitation as a WhatsApp or SMS with reply buttons, where answering takes one tap and the site is there for anyone who wants details; the walkthrough is in [how to send wedding invitations on WhatsApp](/blog/how-to-send-wedding-invitations-on-whatsapp).

### Forgetting the site after the wedding

The site is useful afterward: a thank-you note, the album, a place for guests to leave photos. Update it the week after and leave it up. It stays free.

## What it costs

Nothing to build, publish or host, and nothing for the RSVP. A custom domain is $29 once, if you want one. Sending invitations through Eventi as WhatsApp or SMS messages with reply buttons is the paid product, at $0.45 per invitation with a $15 minimum, reminders included; details are on the [pricing page](/pricing). If you are weighing platforms, the [wedding website cost comparison](/blog/how-much-does-a-wedding-website-cost) puts Zola, The Knot, Joy, Squarespace and Wix side by side, and the [Eventi vs Zola](/compare/zola) page goes feature by feature.

The fastest version of this guide: create the event, pick a design, accept the AI draft, turn on RSVP, publish, send the link. You can do the editing tomorrow. The site can change as often as you like after it is live.
