Good RSVP by text wording does three things in under four lines: it says what the event is and when, it asks for a clear yes or no by a specific date, and it tells the guest exactly how to answer, whether that is a reply to this message, a tap on a button or a text to the number on the card. Below are fourteen templates by tone and by event type, a three-message reminder sequence for the guests who go quiet, and the wording for the “RSVP by text to” line on a printed invitation.

If you are a guest trying to answer an invitation, you want [how to RSVP by text](/blog/how-to-rsvp-by-text) instead. This guide is for the person sending.

## The four parts of an RSVP text

- **Who and what.** Your name, or the couple’s names, and the event in a few words. Guests skim, so put this first.
- **When and where.** Date, time and the venue or city. If the details live on an event website, one line here and the link is enough.
- **The ask and the deadline.** “Please reply yes or no by 1 August”. A date gets replies. “Let us know” gets silence.
- **How to answer.** “Reply to this message”, “tap Yes or No below” or “text 555-0100”. Remove the guesswork and the reply rate climbs.

One more rule: send it to each guest individually, not to a group. A personal message with a name on it gets answered. A group broadcast gets forty thumbs up and no headcount. The [RSVP by text or WhatsApp](/blog/rsvp-by-text-or-whatsapp) post goes into why.

### Save the date, before the invitation

> Save the date! Maya and Daniel are getting married on 12 September 2026 in Lisbon. No need to reply yet, the invitation with the RSVP will follow.

A save the date is the one message that should not ask for an answer. More of those are on the [save the date text](/save-the-date-text) page.

## A three-step reminder sequence

Most guests who do not answer the first message are not declining, they are busy. A short sequence, sent only to guests who have not replied, usually brings the rest in. Three messages are enough. Any more and the [reminders start to grate](/blog/how-many-rsvp-reminders-is-too-many).

When

Wording

A week before the deadline

Hi Noa, a quick reminder that we're collecting replies for 12 September by 1 August. Could you reply yes or no when you have a moment?

On the deadline

Hi Noa, today is the last day for RSVPs for Maya and Daniel's wedding. We'd love to know if you can make it. A quick yes or no is all we need.

Two days after

Hi Noa, we're giving final numbers to the venue tomorrow and haven't heard from you. If we don't hear back by tonight we'll assume you can't make it, but we'd love to be wrong!

The important part is the filter: reminders only to the people who have not answered. A guest who said yes on day one and then gets three “have you replied?” messages stops reading your texts. The full set of reminder scripts is in [RSVP reminder wording](/blog/rsvp-reminder-wording), and if you use a tool that tracks replies, it can do the filtering and the sending for you.

## The “RSVP by text to 555-0100” line on printed cards

Printed invitations still need a reply channel, and a phone number is now more common than a reply card. The wording on the card should name the channel, the number and the deadline in one line. A few versions, from formal to casual:

- “Kindly reply by text to 555-0100 by the first of August.”
- “RSVP by text to 555-0100 by 1 August, with the names of those attending.”
- “Please text your reply to Maya at 555-0100 by 1 August.”
- “Text YES or NO to 555-0100 by 1 August.”

Two practical notes. First, decide whose phone the number belongs to and who will answer it, because the replies will come in at all hours for weeks, and someone has to record each one against the guest list. Second, ask for names in the line itself. A text that says “yes, we’ll be there!” from a number you do not have saved is the most common headache of RSVP by text, and the card wording can prevent it.

If you would rather not run a phone number by hand, send the invitation itself as a message with reply buttons. Eventi sends [text message invitations](/text-invitations) to each guest from your guest list, over WhatsApp or SMS, with Yes, No and Not sure yet buttons under the message. Every tap lands against the right name, reminders go only to guests who have not answered, and each guest gets a personal [RSVP link](/rsvp-link) to change their answer later. The printed card can then carry the event website address instead of a phone number, and the [online RSVP](/online-rsvp) on the site catches anyone who prefers a page. Sending is $0.45 per invitation, paid once per event, and the [wedding website](/wedding-website) with its RSVP form is free. Details are on the [pricing page](/pricing).

## Mistakes that cost replies

- **No deadline.** “Let us know if you can come” is read as optional. Always give a date, and make it a real one tied to when the venue needs numbers. The [RSVP deadline](/blog/wedding-rsvp-deadline) post has the maths.
- **Too many questions in the first message.** Ask for yes or no first. Meal choices, song requests and shuttle seats can follow once you know who is coming.
- **Group chats.** Replies get lost, guests see each other’s answers, and nobody feels personally asked. One message per guest.
- **Sending from an unknown number.** If you are texting from a planner’s phone or a new SIM, sign the message with your name in the first line so it is not mistaken for spam.
- **Forgetting the household.** If you invited a family, ask how many are coming. Otherwise a yes could mean one or five.

For the invitation text itself, beyond the RSVP line, the [invitation messages](/invitation-messages) page has wording by occasion, and the [WhatsApp templates](/blog/whatsapp-message-templates-for-event-invitations) post has longer versions with the full details included.
