Roll call app

# A roll call app where nobody has to
install anything or shout their name.

A roll call app does one thing: it tells you, fast, who is accounted for and who is not. The version that works for a shift team, a school trip, a volunteer crew or a building during a drill is a single message that every person on the list receives on their own phone, with a button to tap. The taps roll into a count, the names that stay blank are the ones you go find, and a second message goes only to them. Eight roll call texts are below, followed by what the tool does today and what it does not.

Free to import the roster and write the message. Pay per send, shown before you confirm.

## What a roll call by text looks like

The old way is a clipboard and a voice. It works for a classroom and fails everywhere else: a night shift spread across three floors, a volunteer crew strung along a riverbank, two hundred employees who were told to stay home. A group chat is the next thing people try, and it fails more quietly. Thirty people write here, the replies scroll past, and nobody can say who has not written.

A roll call by text flips it. Each person gets their own message from Eventi's verified WhatsApp number, with your team or school name in the first line and up to three buttons. Nobody sees anyone else's reply. The count on your screen shows how many tapped each button and lists, by name, the people who have not tapped anything. That list is the roll call. Everyone else is already accounted for.

## How to run a roll call in five steps

1

### Keep the roster imported

Paste the names and numbers or upload the spreadsheet once, before you need it. A group column for the shift, the cabin, the crew or the floor means the count comes back split the way you manage people.

2

### Write the message and the buttons

One or two lines saying who you are and why you are asking, then the buttons: Present or Absent, I'm safe or Need help, On site or Clear of the site. Three at most.

3

### Send it

Everyone gets it within a minute or two. Each tap updates the dashboard as it happens. A typed reply like stuck in traffic, ten minutes out is read and filed under the closest button with the text kept.

4

### Re-ping only the silent

Set a reminder for five, fifteen or sixty minutes later. It goes only to the people who have not answered and stops for each of them the moment they tap. Quiet hours are respected, so a late-night check waits for morning unless the send itself was made during the night.

5

### Export the list

Download a spreadsheet with every name, their answer, any free text and the time they tapped. For a drill it is the record. For a real event it is the handover to whoever takes the next shift.

## Eight roll call texts to copy

Each message names the sender, says why the roll call is happening and gives the buttons. Change the places and the names to match yours.

### Safety and emergency roll calls

> This is Harbor Point Marina staff check-in. Tropical Storm Elsa passed over Pensacola overnight and the docks are closed until the Coast Guard clears them. Before anyone drives in, tell us how you are. Tap I'm safe, Need help or Out of town. Supervisors will call anyone who taps Need help within the hour.

> Fire drill in progress at the Rockland Insurance building, 450 Commerce Street. If you have reached the assembly point in the north parking lot, tap Present. If you are working from home today, tap Not on site. If you are still inside, tap Still inside and a floor warden will come find you. Do not use the elevators.

> Site safety roll call, Baxter Tower project on 7th and Pine. A gas line was struck near the loading dock and the site is evacuated. Every worker, tap Clear of the site or Still on site. Foremen, confirm your crew counts in person at the Pine Street gate. Nobody re-enters until the utility company gives the all clear.

> Camp Tamarack counselors, this is Director Lisa. Lights out was at 10 PM and the thunderstorm has knocked the power out in the lodge. Do a bunk count in your cabin right now and tap All campers accounted for or Someone is missing. If someone is missing, reply with the name and cabin number and head to the dining hall.

### Headcounts, shifts and crews

> Mrs. Okafor here, Jefferson Middle School, seventh grade trip to the Science Museum. Chaperones, the buses leave the museum at 2:15 PM. Count your group of five and tap All here, Missing one or Missing more than one. If anyone is missing, reply with the student's name and the museum staff will help us look.

> Mercy Hospital night supervisor doing the 3 AM roll call for the east wing. Please confirm you are on the floor and reachable by tapping On shift. If you are on a break, tap On break. If you are not at the hospital and this reached you by mistake, tap Not working tonight and we will fix the roster.

> River cleanup morning. This is Ben with Friends of the Willamette. Crews are gathering at the Sellwood boat ramp at 8 AM and I need to know how many gloves and bags to put out. Are you here or on your way? Tap Here, Running late or Can't make it. The bus to the upstream site leaves at 8:30 sharp.

> Pastor Greene from New Hope Baptist. Our outreach teams are spread across the Eastside tonight handing out meals, and I want to make sure every team is together and okay before we wrap up at 9. Team leads, tap All good, Need supplies or Need a ride. I will drive to whoever taps Need a ride.

## Where a roll call by text fits

### Schools and trips

Chaperones counting small groups on a field trip, or a district checking families after a closure. The group column is the class or the bus.

### Emergencies and drills

An employer, a campus or a congregation asking is everyone safe after a storm, a fire or an evacuation. The Need help list is the one responders call first, and the Not answered list is the one they call second.

## What exists today and what comes next

Today the roll call app is one message to a list, with up to three buttons, reminders only to the silent, live counts per button and per group, free-text replies filed with the record, text fallback and voice calls for safety checks, and a spreadsheet export. The roster is a list you import and keep.

What it does not do yet: scheduled recurring roll calls, such as an automatic check at the start of every shift, and connections to HR, student information or scheduling systems so the roster updates itself. Each roll call is started by a person, which for a safety check is usually how it should be anyway.
