RSVP on a wedding card means **please reply**. It is short for the French répondez s’il vous plaît, and on an Indian wedding card it usually sits at the bottom with a reply-by date and one or two names and phone numbers: the people who are keeping the guest count. If a card you received says RSVP, the hosts want a yes or a no from you before that date. If you are printing or sending your own card, the RSVP line is how you get a real headcount for the caterer, and on WhatsApp you can replace the phone numbers with reply buttons. ## What the RSVP line looks like on an Indian wedding card Most cards print it in the bottom corner, after the venue and the programme. A typical line reads RSVP: Rajesh Sharma 98xxx xxxxx, Vikram Mehta 99xxx xxxxx. Sometimes it comes with a date, RSVP by 1 December, and sometimes with the words regrets only, which means reply only if you cannot come. On a WhatsApp invitation the same line is often replaced by a link or by Yes / No buttons inside the message. The names are not decoration. They are the family members who have agreed to keep the list, and the number next to each is where your reply should go. If you know one of them, message that person; if you know neither, the first name is usually from the host family. ## How to reply to an RSVP Reply before the date on the card, say how many of you are coming, and say which functions if you were invited to more than one. Three short replies you can copy: 1. Yes Copy Thank you for the invitation. We will be there, three of us. Looking forward to the wedding. 2. Yes, partly Copy We would love to come. Our blessings to Priya and Arjun. ## How to write RSVP on your own wedding card Three parts: the word RSVP, a reply-by date about ten days before the wedding (the caterer wants the count a week out), and who to reply to.
