Save the date text message

# Save the date texts
ready to copy and send.

A save the date text message needs four things: who, when, where, and a line saying the invitation will follow. Below are fourteen templates grouped by tone, from formal wedding wording to a two-line party reminder, each one ready to paste into WhatsApp or your messages app. Swap the names and dates and you are done.

## Save the date text message examples.

Six groups. Pick the tone that matches your guest list and edit the details.

### Formal

For a wedding with a traditional tone, or for a guest list that skews older. Full names, full date, no slang.

#### Classic wedding

Works as the first message to every guest on the list.

Save the date. Maya Cohen and Daniel Levi are getting married on Saturday, 12 September 2026, in Lisbon, Portugal. A formal invitation with all the details will follow. We hope you can join us.

#### Hosted by parents

When the parents are hosting and sending the save the date themselves.

Please save the date. Together with their families, Sofia Martins and James Carter will be married on Saturday, 23 May 2026, in Austin, Texas. Invitation to follow. We would be honoured to have you with us.

#### Anniversary or milestone dinner

Formal, but for a party rather than a wedding.

Save the date for a celebration of Ruth and Michael Adler's fortieth anniversary. Saturday, 7 November 2026, in Chicago. A formal invitation with the venue and time will follow.

### Casual

For friends, cousins and anyone you would normally text anyway. Warm, short, first names only.

#### Friendly wedding

The most common version, and the one most couples end up using.

Hi Noa, we have a date! Daniel and I are getting married on 12 September 2026 in Lisbon. Please keep the weekend free. The proper invitation is coming in a few months.

#### Big birthday

A fortieth, fiftieth or any round number where you want a good turnout.

Save the date, Tom! I am turning 40 and throwing a party on Saturday 14 March 2026 in Brooklyn. Details and the RSVP will follow, but block the evening now.

#### Baby shower or engagement party

Hosted by a friend, so the message names who is sending it.

Hi Priya, it's Lena. We are throwing an engagement party for Aisha and Omar on Sunday 19 April 2026 in Manchester. Save the date, the invitation with the venue is on its way.

### Destination

When guests need to book flights and rooms, the save the date goes out earlier and says so.

#### Destination wedding

Give the city, the month, and a nudge to look at travel.

Save the date! Maya and Daniel are getting married in Lisbon, Portugal, on 12 September 2026. The celebrations run from Friday to Sunday. Flights into Lisbon airport are the easiest, and we will share hotel options soon. Full invitation to follow.

#### Wedding weekend with room block

For when the hotel is already arranged.

Please save the dates of 22 to 24 May 2026 for Sofia and James's wedding weekend in Austin, Texas. We have reserved rooms at the Driskill Hotel under our names. Travel details and the invitation will follow.

### Short

Two lines, for a group chat or a follow-up to people who already know the plan.

#### Two lines

The shortest version that still does the job.

Save the date: Maya and Daniel, 12 September 2026, Lisbon. Invitation to follow.

#### Party in one breath

For a birthday or a reunion.

Save the date! Class of 2016 reunion, Saturday 10 October 2026, Dublin. Details soon.

### With a website link

If you have an event website, the save the date is the moment to share it. Guests check travel early and you answer questions once.

#### Wedding with website

The link does the heavy lifting, so the text stays short.

Save the date! Maya and Daniel are getting married on 12 September 2026 in Lisbon. Everything we know so far is on our wedding website: ueventi.com/sites/maya-and-daniel Formal invitation to follow.

#### Party with event page

The page holds the address and the schedule, the text holds the date.

Hi Sam, save the date for Lena's 30th on Saturday 6 June 2026 in Toronto. Venue, timing and the dress code are on the event page: ueventi.com/sites/lena-turns-30 Invitation and RSVP coming closer to the day.

### Follow-up when the invitation goes out

The second message, months later, that turns a saved date into a real answer. This is where the RSVP belongs.

#### Invitation follow-up

Refers back to the save the date so guests connect the two.

Hi Noa, you saved the date, and here is the invitation! Maya and Daniel, Saturday 12 September 2026, Quinta da Regaleira, Lisbon. Ceremony at 5 pm. Please let us know if you can come by tapping Yes or No below, or on your personal page: \[personal RSVP link\]

#### Gentle chaser

For guests who saved the date but have not answered the invitation.

Hi Tom, a quick one. We are confirming numbers for 12 September and have not heard back from you yet. Could you tap Yes or No when you have a moment? Thank you!

## What to include,
and what to leave out.

The save the date has one job: get the date into the calendar before anything else claims it. Everything that needs an answer belongs in the invitation.

##### Include the date, the city, and who is hosting

Guests need enough to block the day and guess at travel. The exact venue, the time and the dress code can wait.

##### Add the website link if you have one

A free event website with the travel details answers the questions you would otherwise get by reply. Put the link in the text.

##### Leave the RSVP for the invitation

Asking for an answer months out produces vague replies. The invitation, with Yes and No buttons, is where the headcount comes from.

## Send the save the date and the invitation from one list.

Eventi sends both messages to each guest individually, and collects the RSVP when the time comes.

### 1. Add your guest list

Type guests in or import a CSV or Excel file. Every phone number is validated before anything sends.

### 2. Send the save the date

Your text, with a photo and a link to your event website if you like, lands in WhatsApp or by SMS.

### 3. Send the invitation later

The same guest list, now with Yes and No buttons. Guests answer inside the message.

### 4. Reminders chase the silent ones

Automatic, on your schedule, only for guests who have not answered the invitation.

Build the [free wedding website](/wedding-website) first so the save the date has a link to carry, then send [text message invitations](/text-invitations) with reply buttons when the details are final. Signing up and designing are free, and you pay once per event, by the number of invitations, on the [pricing page](/pricing).
