First check whether you need one. SignUpGenius is built for sign-up sheets with slots, shifts, reminders and waitlists, and it is free to start. If your event has many shifts or items that people claim one by one, it is probably the right tool. Organizers look for an alternative when the sheet is not the problem, and the problem is the half of the list that never opens the link. For that, a different approach helps, one message per person with tap-to-answer buttons and reminders that go only to the people who stayed silent. [Try one message per person](/solutions/volunteer-coordination) Free to import your list. No credit card. ## Who reads this page A volunteer coordinator, a PTA chair, a church admin, a team parent. You have used a sign-up sheet before, it worked for the reliable half of your list, and you spent the week before the event texting the other half by hand. You are wondering whether another tool would fix that. ## SignUpGenius and the alternatives, side by side What each option is for. Facts about SignUpGenius come from its own website, read in November 2026. We did not list prices. Slot and shift sign-up sheets ### SignUpGenius According to its website, SignUpGenius covers sign up sheets, fundraisers, event tickets, dues and forms, with slot management, payment collection, automated reminders and waitlists. It says it is free to start with no credit card, that participants do not need an account, and that paid plans remove ads and unlock tools. Its features page mentions automatic email and text reminders. Free, shared spreadsheet ### Google Sheets A shared sheet with a row per slot. Free and flexible, but anyone with edit access can overwrite a row, and there are no automatic reminders. In the room only ### Paper sheet A clipboard at a meeting or after a service. Personal and quick, and it reaches only the people who were there. One WhatsApp per person with buttons ### Eventi Each contact gets their own WhatsApp message with up to three buttons. Counts update live and can be exported. Reminders go only to those who have not answered. In the US, a text goes to contacts without WhatsApp and an AI call can reach those who still do not answer. No slot grid, no payments. SignUpGenius describes itself on its home page as the number one sign up and payments tool in the US. That is its own claim, not a ranking we checked. ## Which one fits your job Your situation Better fit Thirty shifts across a weekend festival, each capped SignUpGenius or another slot-based sign-up site Collecting money with the sign-up SignUpGenius, which says payment collection is built in Potluck where every dish name matters A slot sheet, or a shared Google Sheet A yes or no from 150 parents who ignore email One message per person with buttons Three choices, like Morning, Afternoon, Can't One message per person with buttons Members who prefer to answer on their phone without opening a link One message per person with buttons ## When SignUpGenius is the better choice Plainly, when your event is about slots. If people need to see which shifts are open, claim one, and have the sheet close when it is full, a slot-based sign-up tool does that and Eventi does not. The same goes for collecting payments with the sign-up and for waitlists that fill a slot when someone drops. If those are the jobs, staying with SignUpGenius makes sense. ## How the one-message approach works 1 ### Import the list Paste names and numbers, or upload CSV or Excel from your roster. 2 ### Write one message with up to three buttons Eventi sends each person their own WhatsApp message from its verified number, with your organization's name in the first line. Nobody joins a group. 3 ### Read the live count Each tap updates the count on your dashboard. Answers are private to you, and you can export them. 4 ### Remind only the silent On days you pick, contacts who have not tapped get a reminder, inside quiet hours. It stops the moment they answer. ## Using both Some coordinators keep their slot sheet and use Eventi to send each volunteer a personal message asking whether they can help this month. The ones who tap yes get the sheet link. The ones who tap no are off the chase list. Creating an Eventi account and list is free. Sending is paid per campaign, shown before you confirm. ## SignUpGenius alternative questions Straight answers before you send anything. ### Is SignUpGenius free? ### What is the best SignUpGenius alternative? ### Can Eventi do time slots and shifts? ### Does Eventi collect payments? ### Do people need an app to answer? ## Get answers from the people who never open the link [Volunteer sign up sheet guide](/volunteer-sign-up-sheet)[Potluck sign up sheet guide](/potluck-sign-up-sheet)[Eventi for volunteer coordination](/solutions/volunteer-coordination)[RSVP tracker that fills itself in](/rsvp-tracker) [Start free](https://app.ueventi.com/login)
